The Spring WILD session was a spicy time of happiness wrapped in a burrito of fun and topped with the guacamole of education. The group ventured once again into the wilderness to learn about outdoor leadership. Once there the weather, while chilly, stayed rather nice. All in all everyone had fun and no one died.

The Fall WILD event was an amazing time of learning, teaching, and naps lots of naps. Twelve people went out into the woods behind a mountain to practice and gain experience in teaching in the out of doors. All the participants know just about everything there is to know about leading a great trip for the Penn State Outing Club. The weather was just as awesome as the people, with nothing but sunny skies and smiles. Everyone had fun and no one died.

The spring WILD weekend was a great success. Fourteen people total went into the woods to learn the in and outs of organizing, planning, and running awesome PSOC trips.Much fun was had despite the surprisingly chilly weather, however it was all sun. Lots of fun in the sun, and no one died.

WILD (Wilderness Instructional Leadership Development) was reorganized this year, but was held in the same spirit as always. Those in attendance participated in sharing their backcountry knowledge, including both soft and hard skill sets. The weather was dead set to wash-out all of us, heavy flooding turned many trails into streams ankle-deep or more. The group was awesome and after opening up flourished. Many games were played and delayed departure for a few hours. Large groups are unwieldy and it is recommended that they be broken up for easier handling.

WILD (Sorta)

October 21 - 22, 2006

This sorta WILD event was held in late October, at Sand Springs. Sand springs is a nice campsite. It is a great place for a group of any size, you have to get creative with tents and tarps, there a lots of widow makers (aka dead trees) nowadays but you can fit lots of people in the area. The bear bagging trees (there are two viable options in close proximity) are quite high, so give yourself a good hour just to throw the rope. The trail also connects with the MST which is a great option for a day hike, so this is a good place to 'base camp'.  Ii is recommended for overnight trips to park on the access road and not to park at Shingletown Gap. There is an old pair of cross country skis that have been burned in the fire over the last half decade or so, this has nothing to do with the weather but whatever, the weather was ok.

When shopping for the group meal, they didn't know what to get and were feeling kinda lazy.  So they bought two rotisserie chickens, quintuple bagged them, and hiked them into camp. Lets just say that people enjoyed the WEIS quality meat that was offered. However, if you pack in 10 pounds of slow roasted chicken, you'll get several double takes.  Just make sure and bear bag EVERYTHING that the birds made contact with.   Believe me, the smell gets EVERYWHERE.
